"I was born into a world of great 80’s and even 70’s action figures and
great cartoons or movies to promote them. Not today’s world of video games and crazy cartoons that give you a migraine from all the flashing, along with toys that you can only display or reenact a scene from the movie with. The toy stores were filled with entire aisles of action figures and other similar toys and huge bins filled with clearance toys. Most action figures cost $2.97 regular price as opposed to the $8 now. The cartoons had morals and classic themes like good versus evil, and were not dedicated to being long advertisements for figures or game cards that is repetitively shoved in parents’ and kids’ faces today.
When playing you had to use your imagination and make up stories instead of having to reenact the movie or show story lines like now a days. I remember fighting with my brother about who gets which character and how a character behaves and who owns which toys. I always liked playing by myself creating elaborate storylines. The great thing about action figures is that you can play with many or play by yourself and enjoy it even more which is certainly lacking in today’s kids.
I have been a collector my whole life of action figures (I’ve also played with action figures my whole life). However I hold different standards for the toys I collect and the toys I play with. I have collected comics, stamps,
coins, sports cards, non sports cards and probably a few other things,
so I’m a natural born collector. I have also enjoyed selling many
things for my whole life as well."
